The link between mental wellness and beauty
HOW TO HARNESS YOUR OWN BEAUTY
If you were to think about mental wellness and beauty as cities on a map, you would probably imagine them being pretty far apart and pretty different – like, say Venice Beach and Manhattan, but the surprising truth is that they are a lot more closely linked than you might think.
First, let’s chat about mental wellness. Mental wellness, slightly different than mental health, is defined by the World Health Organization, as “a state of well-being in which the individual realizes his or her own abilities, can cope with the normal stresses of life, can work productively and fruitfully, and is able to make a contribution to his or her community”
You can also think of mental wellness as the state achieved through dedicated self-care and wellness practices, and products (like STUNN’s supplements). It’s an elevated sense of peace, balance, wholeness, and self-love.
To be mentally well, is the first and most poignant aspect in achieving overall wellness. When you’re in alignment with your mental wellness, it positively impacts all aspects of your mind, body, and soul – and that includes your self-image.
So this is where beauty comes in. The word beauty itself has gained a bit of a surfacey reputation. When you think of beauty you probably think of make-up and perfectly curated images of ridiculously (and disproportionately) flawless people, places, and things. If someone were to say they were interested in beauty, you might even judge them a little bit, thinking that they were vapid and shallow.
But, the truth is that beauty is anything but shallow and vapid.
For example, the definition of beauty, as defined by Merriam-Webster dictionary, is: the quality or aggregate of qualities in a person or thing that gives pleasure to the senses or pleasurably exalts the mind or spirit.
Read that again… Beauty is something almost indefinable that pleasurably exalts the mind or spirit.
So, how can anything that exalts your mind or spirit possibly be shallow or vapid? The problem is beauty has gotten a bad wrap thanks to the toxic societal beauty standards long perpetuated by old-school beauty brands, new-school social media, and compounded by filters and photo-editing apps.
The definition of beautiful somehow became something specific, unattainable, and to be honest, impossible. It became toxic, and through that has morphed into something we have filed away as vapid and shallow.
Still… We yearn for beauty, we are naturally drawn to and stimulated by truly beautiful things. And, somewhere within each of us, we wish to be beautiful ourselves. We wish to look in the mirror and experience that pleasurable exaltation of our mind and spirit.
Guess what? You absolutely can, and absolutely should experience that.
Welcome to the intersection of mental wellness and beauty. The truth is that the only thing holding you back from experiencing and celebrating your own beauty has nothing to do with the shape of your nose, the length of your eyelashes, or the width of your mouth. It has everything to do with your perspective and, you guessed it, your mental well-being.
Beauty truly is in the eye of the beholder. Beauty is an experience, and only the experiencer gets to define the confines of the experience. So, when you shift your perspective and take the steps to redefine your own definition of beautiful – that’s when the real magic happens.
That’s when you truly harness your own unique beauty.
Now, shifting your perspective and maintaining that new POV isn’t easy. Like anything transformative, it takes time, focus, and commitment. So, this is where mental wellness comes in.
When you commit to your own mental wellness through daily routines, wellness practices, and transformative nutrients, you are committing to that shift in perspective. Not only that, but when you truly embrace your self-care – scratch that – self-love practices, you are taking the steps to radically transform all aspects of your life – and that includes not only how you see yourself, but how others see you too.
The wild thing is, that when you step into your own glow and start to believe in your own unique beauty – so does everyone else.
You can spend all your time, effort, and money on surface products and procedures trying to achieve the unachievable, but even if you managed to completely erase your innate beauty and become that toxic definition, you would still be missing the most important aspect of beauty: truly experiencing and believing in your own beauty.
Beauty comes from within, it is an essence, an aura, an experience, and the key to stepping into it for yourself comes from embracing empowering mental wellness rituals.
