PSST: You're A Badass!

How To Embrace Your Own Unique Awesomeness.

Here is the thing: you are awesome. There is something about you that is unique, interesting, beautiful, and extraordinary. The problem is, you may not recognize it, and if you don’t recognize it, you probably aren’t capitalizing on it.

Now, capitalizing on yourself may sound odd. It may even feel like a negative thing, like you’re selling yourself out. The truth is, capitalizing on your own unique badassery is one of the best, most-loving things you can do for yourself.

Standing in your power by owning your greatness is something you need to be doing, because if you aren’t, a couple not so great things are more than likely going to happen:

One: you’re more susceptible to falling into a jealousy spiral, comparing apples to oranges. We’ve all been there, sliding down that slippery slope of comparison into self-defeat. However, if you’re already harnessing what makes you special, you’re less likely to slip, and more equipped to pull yourself out of that vicious cycle.

Two: you are depriving the world of your gifts. What makes you, you, is special, and the world needs more specialness in it. If you don’t want to share your gifts that’s fair, but don’t think for one second that the world wouldn’t appreciate it, because honestly, the world is just waiting for you.

The world needs your greatness, and you deserve to shine. It doesn’t need to be on a grand scale, but even allowing yourself to embrace your own beauty and potential will make a positive impact on the lives of those around you. Not to mention your own life.

Now, the question is: do you know what that special something is? And, if so, how do you harness it?

Let’s start with the first part, what is it that makes you one-of-a-kind-magical? If someone were to ask your best friend what their favorite thing about you is, what would it be? It could be anything from the way you tell a joke, to how you have a little bounce in your step, to your passion for singing (whether you’re good at it or not), to simply being an amazing friend. Whatever it is, that is part of that magic. That is one part of your magnificent equation.

So, what if you actually did that?

Actually ask your friend what their favorite thing about you is. Next, think of a family member you love and ask them, then a colleague you appreciate, then your significant other, or another dear friend. Write these answers down and take some time to get real, unfiltered, and excited about the incredible person you are Now ask yourself: What do you love about yourself?

Armed with these answers, the picture of the sensational human being you are will begin to take shape. From here, try narrowing the answers down to one word, or even a very short sentence for each, then connect it into its own sentence.

It could look something like: “Best laugh, kindest heart, incredible work-ethic, most beautiful face, and a steel will!”

This will be your sentence of greatness. This is something you can write at the top of your journal every day, or use as a mantra in the mirror every morning, or even put in your bio on social media (if you were to be so bold!). That sentence is the first part of owning your own greatness, and it is something you should be proud of.

The next step is to think of how you can expand on this. Consciously carry this into your daily life, and let it shine through in everything you do. If part of yours is being thoughtful, do that more. If it’s being creative, carve out more time to be creative. If it’s being beautiful, say ‘thank you’, or even ‘I think so too!’ next time someone compliments you.

Don’t be afraid to empower yourself with your gifts and unleash them into the world around you. Start a blog, or a vlog, host a BBQ, or smile at a stranger at the grocery store. Be you to the fullest, and be proud of yourself.

You may experience backlash, some negativity, maybe even some jealousy, when you start to embrace what really makes you so powerful, and that’s okay. It’s part of growth. Just remember that that negativity is a reflection of the person dishing it out, not you. Practice patience or remove yourself from the situation. Take some time if you need to, then pick yourself back up and keep shining. You may not be everyone’s cup of tea, but you are absolutely someone’s.

Now that you’re equipped with the formulation to uncover your own unique badassery, it’s time to get out there and harness it! This is your life to live, and regardless of what has happened before, or what may happen next, it’s time to blaze your own trail. This is your time, and we can’t wait to watch your shine!
