There is something to be said about having a dream. A big, fat, audacious goal. There’s an addictive feeling that comes along with having a rose colored vision of your very own glorious future. A sense of comfort, a feeling of being untouchable, unbreakable, and unstoppable. It’s a great feeling.

But, when the initial glow of that big idea starts to wear off and you start to take a critical look at your dream, a completely different sensation starts to set in. That radiant, unstoppable feeling soon shifts into one more akin to dread, overwhelm, and even hopelessness.

Thoughts like “How can I possibly beat the odds?” or “How do I get from here to there?” creep in, followed by waves of comparison envy, imposter syndrome, and worthlessness.

The problem is doubt, fear, and all the other crippling emotions that come along with stepping outside of your comfort zone and taking the risk to follow your dreams don’t just show up at the beginning. They tend to rear their ugly heads when you least expect it.

Now, how do you take that leap, get past the initial doubts, and continue to climb the mountain towards where you dream to be?

In life, there are no shortcuts, no easy hacks to skip all the tough bits. You can’t just wake up one day and magically find yourself sitting in front of a pot of gold. The hard parts, the challenges, the battles, are all part of what make the destination worth it, but that doesn’t mean it has to feel terrible.

What it means is that you need to set yourself up for success by showing up every day to be your own advocate and support your mental wellness through all the micro-steps along the way. Great, but how do you do it?

No matter your dreams or goals, whether it be personal or professional, the key to harness your own unique potential is through daily routines.

While, that may sound oversimplified, the truth is that in order to enact any change in your life, internal or external, you need to work at it every day. You can think of routine’s as your anchor or north star. They are the constant in your evolving experience, they are your roots. And the best part is, they are all of your own making.

You can think of cultivating empowering daily rituals or routines like setting out stepping stones to cross a river. Each day you commit to specific practices that help shift your perspective and nurture your mental wellness to build up your confidence and working through the hard emotions.

Routines should be sustainable, that means they should feel good for the most part. You can choose to incorporate some that push you a little outside your comfort zone like cold therapy or certain exercises, but at the end of the day these goals are there to help you stay focused and committed to your journey. The toughest part may be figuring out which rituals work best for you.

Here are four empowering rituals you can incorporate into your daily routine to support you in reaching your dreams:


1. Morning Meditation – Carve out as little as 10 minutes every morning to take advantage of your most quiet mind. Make sure you’re awake enough that you won’t fall back asleep, but not overly stimulated that your mind will easily wander to your to-do list for the day ahead.

Once you’re ready, find a warm and comfortable space to sit or lie down, then set an alarm, play meditation music and focus on your breath. This is a prime opportunity to do a body scan, identify and release tension, and set intentions for your day ahead.

2. Mindset Mantra – After you’ve completed your meditation, get out of bed and stand in front of the mirror. Make eye contact with yourself and state an empowering mantra that aligns with your goals and helps break down any mental barriers that may be holding you back.

For example, if you’re goal is to get a raise at work, your mantra could be something like ‘I am the best candidate for the position’, or if you’re working on a project and seem to continuously be facing roadblocks, your mantra could be, ‘I am releasing all subconscious barriers between me and my success’.

3. Nighttime Journaling – At the end of a long day it’s easy to feel bogged down by all the little grievance, challenges, and roadblocks you faced. Even if you had a great day and feel invincible, it’s incredibly important to make time to address any underlying emotions. One of the best ways to get it all out there and take stock of where you’re at is through journaling.

There are numerous types of journaling – from reflective writing, to creating release lists, to intention setting – there is a style of journaling for everyone and every day. You can pick what feels right for you each day and spend as little as ten minutes before bed with your pen and journal.
