Commitment Challenge: Week THREE

Daily Digital Detox

What is the first thing you do when you wake up in the morning? If your answer involved checking your email, social media, or texts, then this challenge is for you.

This month’s transformational theme is commitment, and this week we are putting the spotlight on reducing temptation and distraction so you can find the motivation and time to stay committed. And, what is the biggest source of distraction for most people? You got it – email, social media and texts.

While it is difficult to imagine a world without modern technology, it is important to also realize how much damage and distraction it can cause if it is not used appropriately. With all of the apps, social media, and internet at our fingertips, it is easy to get sucked in. And getting sucked in before you fully wake up in the morning can become a recipe for a disastrous day. Nothing squashes the ability to find a positive mindset and motivation quite like seeing an annoying work email, reading an unpleasant news article, or diving into the social media vortex while your eyes are only half open.

Most of us simply don’t have the ability to completely turn off and tune out of our technological distractions for a long period of time. The good news is that you don’t need to – simply by avoiding these distractions first thing in the morning, you can align yourself with the focus and motivation you need in order to commit to a healthy, productive, and transformative lifestyle.

The Challenge:

On the self-care challenge menu this week is a simplified digital detox, in which you will commit to not looking at your emails, social media or text messages until after you complete your regular morning routine.

There is no fancy routine you need to follow, and no added time required. But simple doesn’t always mean easy – especially if you are the type that uses your phone to wake you up in the morning.

Time Commitment: No Additional Time Required

There is no additional time required to do a daily digital detox – simply carry on with your usual morning routine, and avoid the temptation to look at your email, social media, or text messages. Many of you will find you actually have more time in the mornings by avoiding your usual technological distractions.

When: AM

When we wake up in the morning, we have a unique opportunity to take advantage of our clear mindset. Our state of mind first thing in the morning is very open to suggestion, giving us the opportunity to shape our day, but with that comes a fragility we need to be mindful of. The daily digital detox can protect our vulnerable mindset and give us the chance to set ourselves up for success.

How:

  • Set your digital devices to airplane or silent mode before you go to bed. Leave your devices in an area outside your bedroom, unless you use it as an alarm, in which case airplane mode is crucial. Ideally, store them somewhere that you don’t go in the morning.
  • Wake up, and complete your normal morning routine. If that involves brushing your teeth and jumping in the shower, then do that. If you are building your own routine based on these self care challenges, then keep on going with them!
  • Ideally, your morning routine should put you in a state where you feel awake, calm, and motivated to take on the day.
  • Once you are finished with everything you want to accomplish in the morning, feel free to establish your connection to the rest of the world again!

You will be pleasantly surprised at how little you miss and how much better you feel when you avoid checking your email, social media, and texts until you are fully ready to take on the day!

In addition to protecting yourself from the chaos of the outside world, taking STUNN AM, which contains Ashwagandha, Green Tea, Boswellia Serrata, and Gotu Kola, will amplify your focused mindset and aid in creating a calm, positive headspace.

Next week, we will dive into our final commitment challenge to explore self-discipline.
