Awareness Challenge: Week THREE


We spend a huge chunk of our time in our heads. Most of the time we aren’t even aware of it, which can be a big problem if that self-talk is negative, and let’s be honest we all fall prey to that more often than not. The thing with self-talk is that it is an exceptionally powerful tool, and if harnessed and wielded wisely, it can make profound shifts in your life.

By changing staple words in our self-talk vocabulary like ‘ugly’ to ‘exotic’, and ‘anxious’ to ‘excited’ and ‘failure’ to ‘risk-taker’, we are empowering ourselves to change our personal stories which directly impact our mental state, our outer beauty, and our overall lives. The old saying that “sticks and stones can break my bones, but words will never hurt me”, couldn’t be more wrong – words have the power to cause miracles.

Oh, and one more note; putting in the work to shift your self-talk can actually impact your appearance. We spend so much time perfecting our make-up and investing in ten-step skincare regimens, but often forget that one of the most powerful ways to glow is to start believing in your own beauty.

The Challenge:

This week we challenge you to pick one negative, disempowering word you catch yourself using regularly, and commit to swapping that word out with an empowering one. For example, if you find yourself saying ‘I’m so stressed’ commit to changing that to ‘I’m mastering this’. The idea is to find an inspiring and positive counter to your low vibe dialogue.

Once you’ve identified your word or phrase and re-written it with its transformative counterpart, commit to saying it out loud three times in the mirror every morning after you’ve meditated and before you brush your teeth. You can also write it on your bathroom mirror or on a post-it and stick it on your mirror for an extra reminder.

Time Commitment: 1 Minute or Less

Lock eyes with yourself in the mirror, and state your new dialogue at a confident pace three times.

When: AM

This practice is best initiated first thing in the morning, after you’ve cleared your mind through your morning meditation and before you dive into the chaos of daily life. The idea is that by solidifying this dialogue first thing in the morning, it will naturally course correct negative dialogue throughout the day.

You know yourself best, and you know that one area where you are hardest on yourself. Whether it be feeling ugly, fat, stressed, angry, frustrated, annoyed, tired, depressed, unmotivated, uncreative – you know where your mind likes to spin the most. Eventually, you can tackle all of your negative scripts, but it is most effective to start with just one. Also, don’t get hung up on picking the ‘right’ word to start, just pick the word that seems to be bringing you down in this moment.

  • Pick your word or phrase
  • Now that you’ve got your tiger by the toe (aka you’ve identified your negative self-talk word) spend some time reimagine it in a positive light.
  • Every morning after your meditation, stand in front of your mirror, make eye-contact with yourself and confidently state your empowering sentence three times.
  • Option: write it down on a post-it or on your mirror to remind you throughout the day, or act as further affirmation.

And that’s it. Carry on throughout your day with those seeds of empowerment planted. Overtime that empowering sentence will naturally replace your negative self-talk. One day you will realize that that specific pain point is no longer a problem, and you can move on to the next one.
